💡Recruiter Tips with Mily Davila (Manager, Talent Acquisition at IPG Mediabrands)
Mistakes to stay away from, recommendations to improve, and open roles
One of the best methods for job candidates to standout is to understand what recruiters look for (and what to stay away from).
I am thrilled to have Mily Davila (Manager, Talent Acquisition at IPG Mediabrands) share common resume & interview mistakes, recommendations, and what roles Mily is currently recruiting for.
Note, IPG Mediabrands is one of the largest media and marketing solutions companies with full-service award-winning agencies such as Universal McCann (UM) and Initiative. I started my career at UM and it was a force multiplier (learned a lot, amazing colleagues, lifelong mentors, and exposure to different industries).
👋 Meet Mily.
My Talent Acquisition career has exposed me to all levels of recruiting within media from early career to executive level, from staffing newly opened offices to established agencies. I work with diverse talent whose commitment, creativity and strengths foster an environment that inspires me to continue to identify talent to join us and contribute to the amazing work we do.
🚨 Common Resume & Interview Mistakes
#1: Not tailoring an “Objective” to the role you are applying for. Especially at the more junior level, talent is applying to multiple industries. If you are going to include this section on your resume, it’s important to ensure that objective matches the role you are applying for. This applies to cover letters as well.
Example: …passionate and motivated about creating content. My goal is to work for a production company that produces… (but the role is a media role).
#2: Overinflated titles.
#3: Typos and format inconsistencies.
#4: Including links on your resume that do not correspond to the text or are faulty. For example, updating your email address but the link still directs to your old email which you do not check anymore.
💡 Recommendations to Improve Your Resume & Interview
#1: Research the role you are interviewing for, the client, the interviewers, the company. Prepare questions for your interviewers.
#2: Know the business you are interviewing for. If you’re interviewing in AdWorld, don’t say “I don’t watch ads”.
#3: In this work from home model, where interviews are virtual, show up on camera, dress as if you were interviewing in person, eliminate distractions, be on time.
#4: Keep the resume tidy and uncluttered, keep it simple with font styles, colors, etc.
#5: Don’t underestimate the power of a thank you email.
